Avoiding a Dry Mouth
One of the easiest ways to avoid a dry mouth is to keep your mouth well-hydrated. Doctors and health experts have long been telling us to drink at least 8 glasses of water daily, but how many of us actually do this? If your mouth feels dry, you may be on your way to being dehydrated. Keep yourself hydrated with water and not with sugared drinks that can do more harm than good to your oral health. Avoid high consumption of coffee of caffeinated drinks, which can make the mouth feel more dehydrated.
Do you breathe using your mouth? If you do, you should make a conscious effort to breathe normally through your nose instead. Mouth-breathing causes your mouth to feel dry all the time. You can also chew on sugar-free gum to stimulate and increase saliva production. It is best to stop smoking or using tobacco products, because these contribute to your dry mouth problems.
